Finding out which lipstick shades work with your skin tone will make your beauty routine SO much easier!
First things first, you need to know your skin undertone and if you don’t know what it is already, it’s super easy to find out.
There’s three to choose from:
- Cool
- Warm
- Both/Neutral
Look at the veins on the inside of your wrist. Are they blue? Does silver jewellery look better on you than gold? Do you burn before you tan? If the answer to all three questions is yes, chances are you have a cool undertone.
You’ll look best wearing lipsticks that have bold, deep tones. If they have blue/purple undertones, even better!
If your veins look green, gold jewellery looks better on you and you tend to tan/bronze before burning, you have a warm undertone.
Choose warm shades with red and orange undertones to really accentuate your natural skin tone.
If you look good in both silver and gold jewellery, you probably have a neutral undertone, which is fabulous because you have the freedom to choose any shade of lipstick you want! Lucky you!
Remember that the general rules are:
- Fair skin looks good wearing bold, deep colours.
- Olive skin looks great in pinks, nudes and corals.
- Darker skin is perfectly suited to berries and bold, dark shades.

Try a bunch of different shades and see which you prefer. Sometimes, you’ll find that a lipstick colour that doesn’t typically ‘match’ your skin tone looks amazing so go for it! Find out what looks good on you and don’t be afraid to express yourself!
